Announcing the Newborn King!
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Luke 2:11

Traditional Service | 9:00 AM
Modern Service | 10:30 AM
We mark this season of preparation and anticipation of the arrival of King Jesus on the four Sundays leading up to Christmas through the symbolic lighting of the Advent candles, along with the Christ candle on Christmas Eve.

The Gift of Hope
November 30
On the first Sunday of Advent, the initial candle, representing hope, is ceremoniously lit. This act serves as a poignant reminder of the anticipation and longing for the Messiah's arrival, echoing the hope expressed by the prophets of the Old Testament. As the flickering flame of the first candle shines in the darkness, it ignites a sense of hope within the hearts of believers, signaling the beginning of the Advent season.

The Gift of Peace
December 7
The second Sunday of Advent heralds the lighting of the peace candle, signifying the anticipation of the Prince of Peace. As the second candle is lit, it evokes a sense of calm, reminding believers of the peace and restoration that Jesus brings to the world. The gentle glow of the peace candle serves as an invitation to rest in Christ's presence amidst the bustling preparations for Christmas.

The Gift of Joy
December 14
On the third Sunday of Advent, the joy candle is lit, infusing the season with an infectious sense of jubilation. This candle embodies the glorious chorus of the angels and the exuberance of the shepherds who first received the good news of the Savior's birth. As its radiant flame dances in the darkness, it inspires a spirit of celebration and exultation, inviting believers to rejoice in the imminent arrival of the promised King of Kings.

The Gift of Love
December 21
The fourth candle to be lit is the love candle, symbolizing the boundless love of God manifested through the sending of His Son. The warm glow of the candle serves as an expression of Christ's love for the world, igniting a deep sense of connection in the community of believers. As the flickering flames of the four candles converge, they collectively illuminate the path to Christmas Eve, when the final candle of Christ will be lit.

Donations received through December 31
Church of the Saviour is participating in Giving Tuesday by collecting funds to support the work of our Global Partners in northern India. This team is advancing the gospel through diverse vocational initiatives such as health care, English education, dairy farming, and the upcoming launch of a business-as-mission to bring gospel access to both high-ranking officials and those in unengaged remote villages. Our goal is to raise $40,000 by the end of December. Thank you for your generosity!
Christmas Collection
December 1-24
This December, we are partnering with the Roxborough Home for Women!
Founded in 1887, Roxborough Home for Women—located just 35 minutes from Church of the Saviour’s campus in Northwest Philadelphia—was established to provide quality care and services for women of reduced financial means. Today, it continues this legacy as a non-profit personal care community, offering superior services for up to 30 women in a beautiful Victorian-style home that provides a nurturing, homelike environment. Many Church of the Saviour-affiliated men and women serve faithfully in this organization—as board members, staff, and volunteers.
At the heart of the Home’s mission is the belief that each woman’s dignity and individuality should be honored. Residents enjoy a lifestyle that promotes independence while ensuring they are never alone. The skilled, professional staff provide personalized care, engaging daily activities that foster social connection and mental stimulation, and nutritious meals that support each woman’s health and well-being.
Roxborough Home for Women is a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation, continuing more than a century of compassionate service to women in need.
