Serve at cos

Why serve?

As we pursue our mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ in Wayne and beyond, we strive to follow Jesus' example to live generously - giving our time, talents, and treasures for the Kingdom - as we reengage in serving and refocus toward outreach and evangelism. Through the ministries at COS, there are many ways to engage. Whether by helping a child or student learn about God's love or by showing that love through teaching English to immigrants or leading a group with Celebrate Recovery, all of us have a unique part to play in God’s mission.

Join us in our vision of "Daring Greatly: Spending Ourselves in a Worthy Cause."

core Ministries

Alpha Ministries

Alpha ministries provide tools to help you reach your family, friends, and neighbors - the "ones" God has put in your life - with the truth of the Gospel. We are looking for those who are willing to serve during the Alpha and Rooted courses offered in the fall and spring. We need people who are willing to lead small group discussions to create a safe and welcoming space for people to explore what Christianity is and how it can change their lives. If you're not drawn to leading a small group, we can also use help on the Alpha Operations team with prayer, room set-up, dinner service, greeting/registration, and clean-up each week.
If you're interested in learning more contact alpha@coswayne.org.

Community Groups

Community Groups nurture growth and accountability by providing a smaller group setting to build relationships and study the Bible. Our community groups meet at various times and locations. The majority of our groups are sermon-based groups and provide a safe place to discuss and personally apply lessons from the Bible.
We are always looking for those who are willing to lead a community group.
If you're interested in learning more contact communitygroups@coswayne.org.

Global Outreach

We want to see Jesus worshiped in every nation, but most of us are limited to serving locally. While COS has an incredible Missions legacy and continues to support many Global Partners, we also serve cross-culturally in our backyard with the hope of seeing the Kingdom spread to relational networks across the world:
  • Serve with International Students living in our communities - Students from countries with little exposure to Christianity live and study at several local universities. Join our team that is working to engage International Students through initiatives like International Students Day. International Students Day is an opportunity to welcome young adults from around the world to our area with a meal, games, the gift of household items and furniture, and an invitation to learn more about Jesus at COS.
  • Teach or assist a Conversational English class on Saturday mornings - This is another great way to serve a crucial need and create opportunities for our church to share the Gospel and make disciples of all nations. Teachers and assistants do not need prior experience. Each 'semester' is concluded with a wonderful celebration meal that is enjoyed by volunteers and students alike. Our volunteers have big hearts for God and others, and we are always looking to add to our team.

Family Ministries

Kids Ministry

Every week, we get the opportunity to love kids, develop meaningful relationships with them, and lay a strong foundation for the next generation. We love serving side by side with you, in Jesus' name!
Consider joining our team serving once or twice a month as a Sunday school teacher, aide, hallway monitor, AWANA teacher/aide, summer camp counselor, nurse, assistant, creative artist, musician and more. There are lots of ways to serve!
If you're interested in learning more contact katerinas@coswayne.org.

Student Ministry

Are you passionate about serving the next generation? The student ministry is bursting at the seams with middle and high school students who are hungry for connection and small group discipleship! We are intentional about going deeper through small group conversations and equipping adults to lead these discussions and guide students through the ups and downs of walking out their salvation during their teenaged years. We are looking for people who can commit to small group leadership (or assistant leadership) on Wednesdays. Small groups are broken up by gender and age group, so we can fit you with the right group to lead. If small group leadership isn't your thing, consider supporting the SM behind-the-scenes and logistics needs.

  • Join a Bible study leadership team that disciples women through teaching, hospitality, service, and fellowship.
  • Join our Prayer Against Human Trafficking monthly prayer group.
  • Support the Worth It program that ministers to women who are victims of trafficking. We need women to help with driving, food service, making welcome gifts, writing notes of encouragement, and supporting through prayer.
  • Mentor young adults in a women’s Community Group.

Men's Ministry

We are guys walking in faith and helping each other through fellowship, mentoring, discipleship, and accountability.
We want to see men get connected, both to each other and to God. We accomplish that in our community through Community Groups, Weekday Studies, Service Groups and occasional events and retreats. We need your help to encourage men to be everything God is calling them to be.

Special Needs Ministry
Together Won

We believe that everyone should be able to learn about Jesus and participate in the church with the skills and abilities God has given them.
We are looking for people with openness to learn more about interacting with adults and/or children with varying abilities and special needs. Training will be provided. We are also looking for adults, with a heart for service and listening, to provide encouragement and support for young adults at our Together Won fellowship and social meetings. We could also use help leading worship songs, running games and activities, sharing Bible stories, and/or setting-up rooms and snacks.

Young Adults

The COS Young Adults community is a group of young single and married people without kids who are post-college age through mid 30s. We are committed to growing together in love for Jesus and for his people through community-building, discipleship, and service. There are opportunities to serve and get plugged in all year round.
