Loving the Poor


God cares deeply for the poor, and followers of Jesus should too.

"The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me'."  Matthew 25:35-36

What is Harvest Sunday?

Harvest Sunday (last Sunday of each month) is a day to share the compassion of Christ with those in need throughout the communities surrounding the Main Line. Families are feeling the strain of ongoing shortages and rising costs. Those who rely on SNAP (formerly Food Stamps) are especially affected, with benefits not always stretching far enough to cover basic needs. As followers of Jesus, we believe that caring for those in challenging circumstances isn’t just an act of kindness, it’s part of our calling.

How can I help?

We invite you to bring new, non-expired, non-perishable food items as an act of worship. You can place them in specific bins in the Lobby or Welcome Center. You can also bring them forward during the offering to the foot of the platform. All food collected will be distributed to the Community Interfaith Food Pantry of Norristown, a ministry where we’ve been privileged to lock arms in Kingdom work and serve those in need together. Commonly needed items include:
  • Canned meats (tuna, chicken)
  • Canned vegetables & fruits
  • Peanut butter & jelly
  • Pasta, sauce, & tomato sauce
  • Rice & beans
  • Canned or boxed potatoes
  • Cereal & oatmeal
  • Canned soups and stews
  • Shelf-stable milk & juice
  • Crackers
  • Baby food & formula
A delivery crew will drive all the donations right after Harvest Sunday (the last Sunday of the month, except December, when it's the 3rd Sunday;)

Safe Families for Children: Lunch & Learn

Sunday, September 27 | 12:00 PM | Room A106

As part of our Vision Day initiative to becoming personally involved in loving the poor, we invite you to join us for a light lunch as we explore an exciting opportunity to care for vulnerable children and families in our community. Representatives from Bethany Christian Services will introduce us to Safe Families, a ministry that provides a circle of support and temporary care of children for families who are experiencing a crisis, while equipping and supporting every family involved.

A Letter from Community Interfaith Norristown Food Pantry

"On behalf of Community Interfaith of Montgomery County, located in Norristown, and all its recipients and volunteers, we would like to graciously thank the members of Church of the Saviour for your recent donations of food and hygiene products. What an incredible blessing.

In 2025 alone, our pantry served over 400 families a month and 10,000 different individuals. We did this without any government assistance for the last six months of the year due to federal and state budget issues and shutdowns. This is truly a miracle. God was with us every step of the way. If it weren’t for the support of COS and other local churches and individuals, we never would have been able to remain open. The need for stable food security in Norristown and the surrounding areas is very real. Our ability to continue the work of our Lord and staff volunteers at the pantry is only happening because of congregations like yours. I have personally met some of the members of COS while delivering food from Harvest Sunday collections; what a fabulous and sincere group of people with such warm hearts."
